About AHECPP UNIUYO
BACKGROUND
The family of Professor Akpan Hogan Ekpo, former students, friends and colleagues, decided to build a Centre to Honour him while he is still alive. The Centre organizes short-term courses for the training of senior, middle and executive public sector officials and their private sector counterparts in various areas of public policy. In addition, the Centre holds roundtable discussions on topical and relevant issues so as to contribute not only to public discourse but also to influence government policy in Nigeria, Africa and globally. These matters, among others have occupied the life of Professor Akpan Hogan Ekpo for several decades. It is important to state that this type of Centre is not common in this part of Nigeria hence its establishment is beneficial to the university, community, the country and humanity.

To rank among the best continuing education and think tank outfits for Public Policy and Social Issues in Nigeria and the rest of the world.
MISSION
To upscale on a sustainable basis the skills and knowledge of public and private sector officials in various areas of public and social policy in Nigeria and rest of the world.
ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CENTRE
Upon application, the Vice Chancellor in 2015 conveyed the approval of the Governing Council of the University of Uyo that land be allocated in the permanent site for the building of the Centre to be known as Akpan Hogan Ekpo Centre for Public Policy. The committee overseeing the project met on 22nd September, 2015 in Uyo and approved the project. The committee was jointly headed by Dr. Effiong Inyang and Professor Ntiedo Umoren. The Centre was formally established on June 26, 2016.
OBJECTIVES:
These include to
• Upscale the skills and knowledge required in relevant areas of public policy.
• Be proactive in ensuring that public servants in the country are exposed to the current state of the art in terms of public policy theory and practice; Optimize the synergy between public and private officials in the
implementation of public policy;
• Conduct policy dialogue on relevant and topical issues affecting national and the global policy space;
• Raise awareness on social issues such as poverty, inequality and gender; and
• Remain relevant to the university community and its environs.
GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE
The governance structure consists of a Board headed by a Chairman and a management team headed by an Executive Director. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo shall be a member of the Board. A member of the family of Professor Akpan Hogan Ekpo shall always be a member of the Board.
